How to Properly Care for Your Teeth

Posted .

Developing a highly effective oral hygiene routine is absolutely essential for preventing serious issues with tooth decay and periodontal disease. There are many important factors to an effective oral hygiene routine. While it starts with choosing safe and effective oral hygiene products for brushing and flossing each day, it also extends to attending your regular dental checkups.

When shopping for oral hygiene products, you want to make sure to always look for the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Acceptance. This seal signifies that the product has been researched and tested for safety and effectiveness.

The ADA recommends that you brush your teeth twice each day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and an abrasive toothpaste. It is also important that you floss between your teeth and along the gum line to remove plaque and food particles at least once a day.

After brushing and flossing, you can rinse your mouth with antiseptic mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen your breath. Just keep in mind that antiseptic mouthwash cannot replace the effectiveness of brushing and flossing.

It’s important that you attend your biannual dental checkups with Dr. James Feldman and our hygienist to clean your teeth, effectively remove any hardened tartar, and identify early signs of dental issues like tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer.
